Good news, less good news

Our German conversation group met on Tuesday, with a record attendance of nine.  Sheila had sent out a most interesting text about women in Islam: interestingly, it exposed the gaps between Koranic scripture (about as contradictory as the judeo-christian bible) and the current male-dominated culture in so many countries - and Islamic countries certainly have no monopoly in that department.

The drive to Sheila’s was awful: the rains from storm Chandra, which had barely touched these parts, had left huge puddles on the road, which made driving rather tiring.  Maybe that accounted for my backing into Sheila’s dustbin: the car came off worse, and I have a facture plutôt salée next week for the replacement of a light cluster.  At least the bodywork wasn’t damaged.  Nevertheless: bugger!

It’s good to see some colour on the first crocuses, and we have a few primulas in flower.  Lots of other bulbs are popping up through the surface, so we should have a bit of colour when we get back from our stay next month on the floating care home.  I see that the roses are starting to put out some buds, so that’s another job for the end of next month.

I think others are commenting much more capably than I can on the world of politics.  I’d recommend Rory and Alistair’s podcast The Rest is Politics.  By and large I agree with their analysis, and just to try not to worry: I’m ancient and not that healthy, after all.  Yet again: bugger!
